I wanted to broaden my skills in branding a business from the bottom up, so I decided to create a fictional Stained Glass Studio, located in Naperville, IL. I started with curating a name that had meaning in the glass industry: Prism relating to the rainbow effect from light reflecting through glass. Once I found the name I began creating logo designs which turned into business cards, letterhead, advertising, marketing collateral and more. This company would be a small retail shop for stained glass crafters to buy materials, as well as host classes for beginners and also create custom orders.

I tried several attempts at designing a logo based on the rainbow reflection that comes from stained glass. After drafting some designs with this, I realized it wasn’t a practical design if it were to be printed on certain items or even in all black. I then geared my focus more towards common shapes used within stained glass designs and ended with a simple star-like shape.

After completing the final logo design, I began to build the company’s look and feel through a postcard and two print ads. I found a mosaic stock image that resembled stained glass and played off those colors to conceptualize the final designs.

I took a simplistic approach with the company’s letterhead, business card and printed envelope. A feather flag for the outside of the new business was even incorporated into my design package.
Prism Glass Studio Collateral Items
Promotional items for customers included a stylized pen with the company’s information, as well as a custom calendar with a different monthly stained glass image. The calendar also includes Prism Glass Studio’s class schedule, so customers can look ahead to see if any classes interest them.
